Our trips to the Ice Skating Arena have begun. We will go again on Wednesday, next Monday and the Wednesday that week.
In Music we have been learning recorders. Our first test playing Au Claire de la Lune will be on Wednesday. In Math we have been learning about area and comparing small items with larger ones. We have covered subtraction and division. In Social we have been learning about the animals of Canada and created a slide show to tell about them. In Science we have been developing the super power of electricity. We have experimented with magnets and a Van de Graaf generator. In Literacy we have been reading fairy tales, learning about plot diagrams, and we will be doing monologues for speaking and reading practice. In Social Studies we have done a Social Studies research project about cities in Canada.
In Literacy we reviewed expectations for guided reading. We have been listening to Fairy Tales to give us experience with traditional western stories before we use them for Reader's Theatre. We tried some theatre games today to start working on feeling comfortable acting things out in front of our classmates. We continued learning how to use recorders in Music class. In Math we continued centres and explored ways to multiply numbers. In Science we explored chemical reactions that make gases. We also made cards and said farewell to Mr. Beattie who finished his practicum this week. This week, we wrote letters to Canadian Armed Forces personnel overseas.
We continued Math centres and began looking at two and three digit by one digit multiplication. In Social be have begun a research project about various Canadian cities across the country and province. In Science we have been exploring different mixtures and observed what happens when you mix food colouring with cooking oil. Today we enjoyed our second Friday Morning Movie of the year for keeping the class clean. We watched, "The Emperor's New Groove". In Literacy, we worked on our summary writing.
In Social, we had another guest. His name was Mr. Walker. He is a former soldier in the Canadian Armed Forces. He is going to help us write letters to the soldiers of Canada and get them to them. In Math, we began learning about 2 digit by 1 digit multiplication. In Music we began learning about the staff and the notes that go on it. We have our Hot Chocolate sale this week. Please bring hot chocolate supplies. Hot chocolate sale begins on Monday. Please bring hot chocolate supplies for the sale.
Today we had a special guest. Mr. David Ingram from the Royal Canadian Legion came to our class to share some of his family's experiences in the Canadian Armed Forces, We continued to learn about water colour painting techniques. Including wet and dry brush techniques. We continued centres in Math. We did guided reading and directing writing practice in language arts.. Tomorrow evening and Friday morning, there will be parent/teacher conferences. Mr. McDermid's name on the conference booker is still incorrect. Please sign up for interviews under the name Eric Winters or contact the office for an appointment. Mr. Beattie, our student teacher will be attending the conferences with us as long as parents feel comfortable with it.
In Literacy we continued our editing practice from this week. In Science we finished an experiment regarding the separation of solids for chemistry. In Math we had a test on number sense, patterns and variables. We had a drumming music test today. In literacy, we reviewed the use of the re- prefix on words
In Social, we worked on our maps of Canada and Alberta. We have begun recording commercials for raising money to restore our xylophones. We will have a hot chocolate sale for that fundraiser from December 2-8th. Parent-teacher conferences are next Thursday and Friday. Our Remembrance Day Assembly occurred today. Room 7 and the G. W. Skene choir worked especially hard to make this special day happen with grace and beauty. Thank you everyone.
The representative from the Royal Canadian Legion, Dave Ingram, spoke to the school and will return to Room 7 for a second visit on November 29. Parent/teacher conferences will occur on November 21 and 22, two weeks from now. |
